We waited in vain.......

No one showed up last night. I knew that Sara and Teresa were not coming and Amanda warned she was not feeling well but where was everyone else? Well, Sheri and I had a great time visiting and we missed you all.
The restaurant was nice http://www.mandolasmarket.com/dnt.htm . Unfortunately, I ordered one of my favorites...the Nicosia which is field greens with tomatoes, olives and tuna with a drizzling of olive oil. It also comes with anchovies but I asked them to hold those. Well, when the food showed up, they forgot to hold em and there they were for me to enjoy. I tried to pick em off while discussing the better parts of Prodigal Summer. Both Sheri and I forgot the name of the park ranger but could not forget the name of her boyfriend, Eddie Bondo. She never seemed to just call him Eddie. As I picked at the, what I kept calling, "hairy fish", I slowly started to lose any hint of an appetite. Which, for me, is HUGE. So, I put my salad aside, covered it totally with my napkin and proceeded to eat all of Sheri's bread.
Sheri enjoyed the book. She admitted it was hard to get into, at first, but once she was past the introductory period she couldn't put it down.
This is one of my favorite books. It is full of strong women who, for whatever reason, are making it through life on their wits and even their own physical strength.
Sheri and I discussed how I thought that Eddie Bondo's character was not very believable. D'anna (I remembered) would snap at him or push him away and he would just take it with a sense of "oh, that's a woman for you". But he was only 20 something years old. What does a 20 yr old know about women and how women feel? But, Sheri said she thought of it as he came to the forest for hunting season, got what he wanted, and then went home. That sounds more like a 20 yr old man.
I was kinda creeped out by (ummmm...Coal's wife) kissing her nephew. Not sure why that was thrown into the book. I understand the author wanting to demonstrate her being lonely but was he 18? She had better watch it or she might end up like Debra Lafave.

Feel free to add your thoughts and what you liked and did not like about the book. Just comment on this blog.

I'll let you all know when is our next date. I'm thinking around the end of Aug. I'll be the hostess with the mostess and we will be talking about "Water for Elephants".

I really hope everyone can show up. This is the only time I get to see most of you and I hate to miss my chance.

Take care and good reading,

Marla

love the book, although the dialogue seems a liitle "preachy" at times, the message is great.
